Deaf Ministry in Cameroon
Can you imagine a life without the ability to communicate? This is the reality for many of the deaf in Cameroon, Africa. With few resources many deaf children never learn sign language or have the opportunity to go to a school for the deaf.
Unable to sign, read or write, they are locked in a life of poverty with no voice or sense of community, considered by many to be nothing but "throw aways" .
It was to help these forgotten deaf children w-aways" in developing countries that caused Rev Michael Jarrett to found the ministry outreach, "Friends of the Deaf International ".

Lifehouse Deaf School

Lifehouse is a residential School for the Deaf (officially registered as "The Evangelical Institute for the Deaf") located in Obala, Cameroon and is currently under construction.
It was founded in 2004 as an officially registered non-profit, charity in Cameroon by the Rev Andre Christophe Bikund. Andre, deaf himself, knows first hand the importance of giving the deaf and opportunity to learn to communicate.
In 2011 Lifehouse was forced to leave it's rented housing due to lost funding. A few months later, with the help of Friends of the Deaf International, a small piece of property was purchased. The next year (2012-2013) the land was cleared and a storage building and two small classrooms were built.
In September 2013, even though the facilities were no where near complete it was decided to begin school using the two small buildings on the property.
